The main sources of antioxidants
Fruits and vegetables
The body produces certain compounds with antioxidant capabilities, but fruits
and vegetables remain the best source of antioxidants for humans. Therefore,
eating a variety of fruits and vegetables every day allows us to consume many
substances that are good for our health, such as vitamins, minerals, fibre and
antioxidants.
In fact, eating at least five servings of fruits and vegetables a day (a serving
equals a medium-sized fruit or vegetable), as recommended by the Canadian Food
Guide and the World Health Organization, contributes to good health and also
prevents many diseases such as cardiovascular disease, Type II diabetes,
obesity and some cancers
(23). The protective effect attributed to
eating fruits and vegetables can be linked to their vitamin, mineral and
phytochemical content, in particular because phytochemicals possess antioxidant
activity.
Unfortunately, less than half of Canadian and Quebec adults eat the recommended
five daily servings of fruits and vegetables
(24). This substantially reduces their intake
of antioxidants and other essential nutrients.
Knowing that fruit and vegetable consumption is low, Yoplait created YoptimalTM. This new and delicious-tasting
yogourt can help in part to rectify a low antioxidant intake by adding a
dietary + every day!
In fact, each flavour of YoptimalTM has
been enriched with carefully selected, natural-fruit extracts that are rich in
antioxidants. This coincides with the Canadian Food Guide's recommendation to
eat a variety of foods every day. The variety of the fruit extracts used allows
us to offer consumers a wide range of antioxidants. Phytochemicals have
properties that are beneficial to health, and they are naturally found in
fruits and vegetables. The addition of these extracts to YoptimalTM
diversifies the kinds of antioxidants already consumed on a daily basis.

Since fruits and vegetables are the main source
of antioxidants, it is almost impossible for an individual to get too many
antioxidants from food. So don't hesitate to optimize your intake of
antioxidants by eating vegetables, fruits and the brand new YoptimalTM
every day!

Green tea
The therapeutic properties of tea have been recognized for many centuries in
Asian countries, but Western science has only been interested in them for a few
decades.
In fact, green tea contains many compounds with antioxidant activity, in
particular catechins, which are part of the polyphenol family
(24,
25). Catechins are powerful antioxidants. The
extracts used come from different varieties of tea cultivated in China and are
harvested from the Camillia sinensis plant.
Furthermore, the green-tea extracts we use is three times more concentrated than
a bag of green tea.
